Hello, and welcome to The HomeBody Ritual, a place where we talk about turning life into meals and finding our voice in the kitchen (and beyond).

For years now I’ve had the privilege of watching every kind of person sort out who they are by what they eat and how they make it. My kitchen has fed some of the world’s most interesting people, in both personal and professional capacities.

From powerful politicians with every earthly advantage to brave single mothers learning to build a life after domestic violence, each person has a different version of the same story: feeling at home in the kitchen only works when we feel at home in ourselves. This is, of course, easier said than done, but it is a lot more possible when done in community.

Here you will find many helpful resources on how to feel more like yourself in the kitchen and the many other chaotic places life brings us. There will be recipes, personal essays, and round-ups of things I’ve found most helpful on my journey. If this digital space were a film, it’d be a scene from the 1994 version of “Little Women”: warm, small, accepting, grounding, straight-forward, no B.S.

A bit about me. I did not grow up liking or wanting to cook.

I wanted to be an explorer in the Amazon with enough money to eat Lunchables and Pop-Tarts with Dr. Pepper like my namesake, Aunt Elaine. Life had other plans. Now, I get a rush from going to the farmer’s market and asking about soil composition. Things like ground meat, butter, raw milk, bread, and dirty vegetables in a clean sink are all the adventures I need to feel alive. My hope, in time, is to inspire you to find your own voice in the kitchen.
